7th January 2009- Arshavin linked with Emirates Move, plus Eboue to Inter Rumours

Andrei Arshavin has been consistenly linked with a move to Emirates stadium since his outstanding displays for both Zenit St. Petersburg and Russia in Euro 2008 led to him becoming one of the most sought after midfielders in world football. In line with Arshavin’s rise to stardom, Zenit slapped a hefty price tag on their prized  assest, and therefore priced Arsenal, who are notoriously reluctant to spend big money on big name stars, out of a move. However, it appears now talk of a possible move to North London is back on, as Zenit officials claim negotiations have taken place on a possible £20 million transfer. Now Arshavin is clearly a quality midfielder, and he could give us the creative spark we lack without the injured Fabregas, Walcott and Rosicky, but it is highly unlikely Wenger would spend such a sum on one player, especially one whose form has dropped significantly since he wasn’t granted his wish of a move away from Russia last summer. I expect unless the price tag can drop significantly, and their has been talk of payment being made in installments, the move will not materialise.

Arshavin’s potential arrival would lead to an abundance of width avaliable to Wenger, as, when fit, Arsenal would have five wingers on the books. This would seemingly pave the way for a sensational move away from Emirates stadium for a certain Emmanuel Eboue to link up with Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan. Reports today claim Inter have shown interest in the Ivorian, and after the reception he recieved at the Wigan game last month, one would not be surpised if he jumped at the offer. However, one would also be surprised if there was any truth in this story whatsoever, as his rapid deteoriation in form over the last two seasons would surely put any big club off a move for the inconsistent winger.
